Discussion:
Some cyclists are part of the solution, some part of the problem

Well, it's not like I want to divide the bicycling community in two
camps, but there's no bicycling community to save anyway, and the
truth should be told... THOSE CYCLISTS WHO STRAP THEIR BIKES TO THE
CAR AND GO SOMEWHERE TO RIDE ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM. That leaves the
rest of us clear from blame and shame.

And the reason I say that is because they first pollute by using the
car, then don't use the bicycle for practical purposes, and generally
avoid the word "revolution" in their vocabulary. It's not as clear cut
as you would imagine though as I'm often forced to launch the car
before I launch the bike. But I do incorporate the word revolution in
my vocabulary and do take advantage of the bike as a cargo vehicle.
Yes, that's what the bicycle is. That's what Mao had in mind.

We do use the bike as a fashion statement, but that's some "petty
bourgeoisie" trait we got to leave behind. They say all Dutch bikes
are painted black. But the Danish are all about fashion...

Well, we don't know if the revolution should be PROLETARIAN or MIDDLE
CLASS. Something to think about.

WE CAN MAKE BEACH CRUISERS IN AMERICA.
I know that sounds revolutionary, but we make them in America and can
promote them for Americans. Every man, woman and child should have
one.
I'd go for single speed because it got nothing to lose but the chain,
but the middle class can have it three speed and beyond. Steel is the
metal of choice. It will never break in your lifetime.
The automobile industry and big oil may go hungry, but the restaurant
industry will thrive. Every time you need to put "gas," you eat
something that tastes delicious. Everything tastes delicious when you
are hungry. Popcorn is great and that's American. You can even eat
good-old-fashioned apple pie and burn it off. That's American.
And it saves you tennis shoes, which are --in all likelihood-- made in
China. I still remember that Nike scandal. Beach cruisers are *all
American* and will reduce our dependency on foreign oil. We will be
able to tell Chavez, "Now you keep that oil, bastard!"
In short, we will be free.
Pee Wee Hermann for prez !
PS.for your information, Chavez is 100% a fan of beach cruisers. Don't
let Shell Oil tell you otherwise.
This is a little known fact about Venezuela: 12 cents a gallon of gas.
That's criminal. Instead of promoting alternative vehicles, they
promote SUVs and waste. And there are other issues that this TRUE
REVOLUTION can't possibly live with. We are simply smarter...

“It’s criminal how cheap [gasoline] is,” said Gonzalo Ibarra as a gas
station attendant fills up his shiny silver Mercedes Benz for less
than a dollar. “I pay more for the tip than the gas.”

The 64-year old lawyer is in no need of a government handout but as a
wealthy car owner is one of the biggest beneficiaries of a gasoline
subsidy that’s costing the state’s economy at least $1.5 billion in
revenue even as it struggles to recover after two consecutive years of
loss.

Mr. Ibarra is unusual in that he says he would welcome a price hike
but doesn’t believe President Hugo Chavez, who is facing an election
next year, could pull off such a feat in a nation where cheap gasoline
is considered a birthright. “It’s a very delicate matter.”

It sounds like America. The price of gas is about politics.

There are many revolutions.
Which one or ones, if any, you choose
to become involved in is up to you.

If you care to make a difference,
and have some hours to donate
you might want to participate.

The same format
can be used locally
if you are steamed enuf
to get serious about change.
If I were to get involved in my community, I'd first need a scoop to
pick up the crap. As I say, "My community is full of shit."

But that's a lowly job for a wise man who can really change the world.
And the crap can easily be prevented in the first place. I've found
that the best motto for the revolution is "ACT LOCALLY, THINK
GLOBALLY." And how do I best help my community? This is my second
motto --which is my own: "BIKE LOCALLY, BUY LOCALLY."

Bicycling is the beginning of the world revolution. ROAMING FREE will
be an unalienable right. Driving a car will be seen as smoking. The
ads about smoking are getting real nasty, but driving is still widely
promoted in other ads.

We must get the young and seniors to ride bicycles. The ads for the
seniors could have simple truth for them to understand: USE IT OR LOSE
IT! Social Security checks may be cut in half for those who drive.
