"If nothing else, lion taming makes for a great metaphor. Teachers
tame lions when they discipline a group of rowdy students. Business
people tame lions when they assuage an angry customer or steady a
snarling boss. Parents tame lions when they try to talk reason to
their misbehaving teens. Taming a lion means approaching something
intimidating and powerful and using your wits and learned strategies
to disarm the beast."

We are kind of well equipped. Not that the beast is easy to tame. In
fact it's putting up "ferocious resistance" to be tamed. Every effort
to bring SPEED CAMERAS or something that can bring certain degree of
civilized behavior to our communities, has failed so far.

Anyway, here's what needs to be done:

1- SPEED CAMERAS, already widely used in the civilized world,

2- SPEED BUMPS, the affluent communities are putting them up,

3- DEDICATE LANE TO ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION, the right lane will be
dedicated to bicycles, scooters under 50 cc, neighborhood electrics
vehicles (NEVs), and whatever rolls...

I think it's about time we can ROAM FREE while the beast is in the
cage.

2- SPEED BUMPS, the affluent communities are putting them up,
Ever seen how much effort is taken to make a road perfect and flat before
they add speed bumps?
Nice to have a smooth surface to help you build up speed and
launch properly prior to grabbing big air on the speed bump.
They got a nice cutout left flat for two wheel vehicles. Did they
think of us? But I've seen SUVs barely slow down to pass. They do work
for the most part though. Nothing like a camera lights that are made
to make money. My issue is how much they cost:

"If you have been mailed a Notice of Violation, you have 30 days to
pay a fine of $158. If the violation is not paid within 30 days, the
fine is increased to $277"

It can make you break the piggy bank, stop paying cable and possibly
ride some bicycle.

I have been known to accelerate on the bump for launch.
Sometimes I jump down on the bike just before hitting the bump, other times
I go flat out and just stand up... Of wife is on the back she will stand up
as well.
Others brake at the last minute or swerve into bike lanes to lesson the
impact on their car (not the cyclist). A great safety device speed bumps.
I would hate to be in an ambulance going over speed bumps with a broken
whatever.
Speed bumps tend to distract drivers from a juicy phone chat.

I want to talk now about the #1 taming device. It seems to me --
that's my humble opinion anyway-- that the predators of the jungle
have made a compromise with the LIGHT CAMERAS in exchange for the
speed cameras. They know the speed cameras would really tame them, and
they are willing to feed the city with the light cameras so everybody
is happy. Wait, not everybody is happy. The roads are not less wild
than before only that you must be really careful with those light
cameras that are set up more like a trap. Of course, that's a trap
against those at the lower end of the food chain because the big fish
just fly through it and pay the ticket without blinking an eye. C'mon,
I'm getting paranoid about driving, but that's one more reason to ride
a bike and be "off the grid."

I want to say this: When you use the whip, you crack the whip first.
No need to punish that hard. Now, 160 bucks for just stepping over the
line is kind of brutal. That's the price of a light camera ticket
here, and that's PREDATORY.

And now I'm off to drive some 30 miles to ride perhaps 15. But such is
"life in the latter days of civilization." The beast is everywhere!

Hey, it's not my style. We could really make the world a better place
to live without fulfilling the prophecies.
