Mr. Baker, tear down this sign

As I was traveling south on Route 24 in Bridgewater, some construction crew was tearing down a sign that has been bugging me for over three years. The sign said, "DOG TRACK, Exit (whatever)". Greyhound racing has been illegal in Massachusetts for 5 1/2 years.

I wonder if the dog track sign on I-495 is still there. Maybe I'll take an alternate route to work on Monday.

And speaking of WTF signs, on I-495 southbound in Middleboro, there's sign that says the exit for Route 105 is 1 mile. That sign is correct. Unfortunately, 3/10 miles later, there's another sign that says that the exit for Route 105 is in 2 miles.

Was it this sign? http://goo.gl/maps/vXLYO Maybe the 1/ fell off from "1/2 mile".

No. The one mile sign is overhead at mileage marker 13.5. The two mile sign (on the side of the road; not overhead) is 0.3 miles later at mileage marker 13.2. The 1/2 mile sign (overhead) that your link goes to is at mileage marker 12.9. The actual exit is at mileage marker 12.2.

Incidentally, that sign also says that Wareham is 17 miles (actual distance to Wareham Center is 15.7) and that Cape Cod is 26 miles (Bourne Bridge is 23.8 miles).

About two years ago, about a dozen signs were added on I-495 between Raynham and Wareham. Few of the mileages are correct. For example, at mileage marker 6.8 is a sign that says I-195 is 8 miles. The exit for I-195 is at mileage marker 0.2, only 6.6 miles later.

The exit gore, or the actual crossing? Distances for exits are
defined by the point where the centerlines cross (or where they would
cross, if they don't actually intersect). For a freeway exit, that's
usually going to be different from the location of the gore.

The roads diverge at mileage marker 0.2. I-495 and I-195 intersect at mileage marker zero (on I-495). Regardless of which is considered the intersection (for measurement purposes), the mileage on the sign is incorrect.

How is that information useful to anyone?

As an update - I drove by that old "DOG TRACK Exit 16B" sign on Route 24 (southbound between 123 & 106). No, they did not tear it down. The rebuilt it.

While there are no live races there, the track is still open for business. You can go there to gamble on dog and horse races broadcast from other tracks.

How about this sign? https://goo.gl/maps/ApTl0 I believe it's still there. Someone decided it was of crucial importance to direct everyone to an IKEA that never actually got built. Meanwhile, there's no way of knowing you have to bear right to stay on 28 North, or that you can get to I-93 that way.
