Hi Viatologists,
So what goes on behind the scenes at the Worldwide Transportation
Library (WWTL)? Lots. As the WWTL enters its second decade of
service to the public, I'd like to take the a few moments to share
thanks to the key photographers of our site, with whom we've been able
to amass a massive collection of roadway photographs and videos:
http://wwtl.info/#meet.html
In particular, however, I'd like to personally thank those who've been
inspirational in my tireless hours and design put into this effort
(!), to whom I'm perpetually grateful:
Dan Peri: in addition to being a great friend, Dan is a photography
expert with a speciality in European and Middle Eastern travel. By
him joining me throughout Ireland and Switzerland in 2003, I was able
to sit under the proverbial learning tree and absorb photography tips,
including how to take photographs at the right angles, and more
importantly, to integrate scenery in addition to just simply highway
signs. A really quick, well-skilled guy who speaks three languages.
Erica: my supporting and lovely wife of a few years, and best friend
of several years. Between my hundreds of photography trips and
overnight coding adventures, Erica's always been understanding and
accommodating. She has also been known to sneak photographs for us as
she and I drive through the twisted mountainous and roads. Her innate
knowledge of how to get around Northern California has been extremely
fruitful in the WWTL's endeavours. Erica's unending moral support to
me, plus her objective knowledge for regions she knows, supercedes the
awesome photographer role she has filled as needed.
Eric Lozaga: as a great friend of 17 years, in addition to being the
jedi of contemporary web technology, Eric embraces the latest
technology for photograph and video capture. His areas of
geographical expertise includes the Pacific Coast, México, and Hawaii,
where he has driven more times in years than what most people do in a
lifetime. Eric takes a no-nonsense approach in setting life goals,
and has been influential in the WWTL's goal to consistently share new
glimpses of roads worldwide w/ vigour.
As much as I'd like to take credit for the development of the WWTL,
being the main photographer & the public face of our group, I also
extend sincere appreciation to all our other dozens of photographers
who've contributed to the WWTL over the years, including but not
limited to: Ernst Marti, Phoebe Vu, Nils Jeppe, Melinda Nichols,
Tetsuro Kurokawa, and more. Their works have been integrated into the
WWTL's design flawlessly. In fact, their names appear under the
photos they've each taken.
An honourable mention goes to Tim Brown, whose tireless contributions
to the scientific study of roads has been intertwined w/ his
unbridled enthusiasm for life. Through his own independent website,
Tim has breathed life into road studies in the U.S. states of Kentucky
and Ohio. Tim is certainly unafraid to break the mold and say it as
he sees it, which provides insightful depth into his roadside studies,
which garners the tip of the hat from the WWTL. (Bip.)
As the WWTL adds more content in the years to come, I advise you to
always notice who the photographer was. The WWTL is truly a
collection of wonderful folks and individuals. And I--correction, we--
couldn't have done it w/o this great effort.
Cheers,
Carl Rogers
